The 1949 film, The Third Man was directed by Carol Reed, with Graham Greene as the screenwriter. The film starred Orson Welles, Joseph Cotton, Trevor Howard, and Alida Valli. The Third Man Theme music was by Anton Karas. The Fallen Idol was also made into a film in 1948, with Carol Reed as director and Graham Greene, Leslie Storm, and William Templeton as screen writers. It was originally published in 1935 using the title of The Basement Room. The title was chosen by the film distributors and is the story of a murder by a somewhat pathetic man who is unwittingly betrayed to the police by a small boy.
