Synopsis: Tabloid fiction and you might suspect you’re in for a bad time right at the onset when a champagne punch to which a dog has also contributed is knowingly served at a post World War II party. Now, however, 25 years later, some of these old friends are at a shooting lodge in Aspen where one of them within a half hour knocks off five and wounds eleven others on the ski slope below. “Lifeless meat in the snow.” The local police and a psychiatrist combine to close in on the sniper, hopefully not endangering the others who are with him. . . . This is one of those novels in which life is held as cheaply as death and the latter is hurried along in that surefirest fashion with liquor, sex and violence.
